FUE hair transplant extracts individual hair follicles from a donor area and implants them into thinning or balding regions. Pricing is primarily based on the number of grafts needed (typically 1,000–4,000), per-graft cost, and the technique used (standard FUE vs. DHI direct implantation). China's hair restoration clinics offer competitive per-graft pricing with experienced surgeons who handle high-volume cases daily.
Methods Available
Prices vary mainly by hospital tier and implant brand. Here's what foreign patients typically pay at each tier:
FUE · Follicular Unit Extraction (no-scar, ~85% of CN cases — default for most foreign patients)
Individual 0.6-1.0 mm punches harvest one follicular unit at a time. No linear scar; can shave donor area without visible mark. Recovery 7-10 days. Dominant method in China.
Suitable for
- Stable androgenetic alopecia (Norwood 2-6) where pattern has plateaued for 12+ months
- Donor density ≥50 FU/cm² at occipital scalp (assessed at consultation)
- Patients prioritizing no-scar outcome (can wear short or shaved hairstyles post-op)
FUT · Strip method (linear scar but more grafts per session at lower per-graft cost — for very large cases NW5+)
A 15-25 cm strip of donor scalp is excised, then dissected into individual follicular units under microscope. Leaves a linear scar (3-6 mm wide) hidden by surrounding hair. Yields the most grafts per session.
Suitable for
- Large-volume cases (NW5-6) needing 3,500-5,000+ grafts in one session
- Patients who keep medium-to-long hair that covers the linear scar
- Donor scalp laxity sufficient for strip excision (assessed at consultation)
DHI · Direct Hair Implantation (Choi pen, no pre-cut channels — best for hairline density and eyebrow restoration, +30-50% over FUE)
Choi pen (implanter pen) extracts and implants in one motion. No pre-cut recipient channels means higher density and finer angle control. Best for hairline, temples, and eyebrows. Slower (smaller graft volume per day).
Suitable for
- Hairline restoration where natural angle and high density are critical
- Eyebrow or beard restoration (small precision areas)
- Patients prioritizing maximum density per session over volume
Visa Tip
Tourist visa (L) sufficient; minimal downtime
